Southampton Airport
Connections to the city and cruise terminals
Southampton Airport has a nearby railway station at Airport Parkway, with trains into Southampton. Arriving through Heathrow or Gatwick involves a longer onward journey and different interchange points, so the flight and the connection to your hotel or ship belong in the same plan.

Southampton Airport and Airport Parkway
Southampton Airport’s terminal is next to Southampton Airport Parkway station. The link uses a footbridge with a lift for passengers with luggage or reduced mobility. Airport Parkway and Southampton Central are different stations.
The airport advertises a fastest rail journey into Southampton of seven minutes. That is the train journey, not the time from the aircraft to a hotel or cruise terminal. Add the walk to the station, waiting for the train and the final journey from Central when comparing it with a taxi.
Getting into Southampton
For the train, search from Southampton Airport Parkway to Southampton Central on the day of travel. From Central, continue to your hotel or the named passenger terminal. Getting here brings together the city’s arrival points.
A taxi can take you directly to your destination. Use the hotel’s street address or the full cruise-terminal name and tell the provider about luggage and mobility equipment. If you need assistance at the station, arrange it through the railway; assistance during a flight or inside the airport does not automatically cover the onward rail journey.
Getting to your cruise terminal
Southampton has five cruise terminals, divided between the Eastern and Western Docks. A transfer to Ocean and a transfer to Mayflower do not have the same endpoint. Match the collection to your flight arrival and the drop-off to the cruise documents.
For a pre-booked transfer, establish the meeting point, the allowance for getting through arrivals and how the provider handles a delayed flight. Compare the capacity for people and cases as well as the vehicle description. Use the cruise line’s boarding appointment to judge whether the complete journey fits; a short road distance alone does not settle that decision.
Heathrow to Southampton
National Express route 032 serves Heathrow Terminal 5 and Heathrow Central Bus Station on its route to Southampton Coach Station, Harbour Parade. Select the Heathrow stop that matches your arrival terminal and include any transfer within the airport.
Another option is the RailAir RA2 coach to Woking, then a train towards Southampton. SWR lists Woking as an interchange for Southampton travellers and RA2 as serving Heathrow Terminals 5, 2 and 3. This has an extra connection compared with the through coach. Use the SWR airport connections and National Express timetable to compare the journey for your arrival date.
Gatwick to Southampton
Gatwick’s railway station is in the South Terminal. SWR lists rail links from Gatwick to Clapham Junction and to Guildford or Wokingham, which provide interchange options with its network. Search the complete journey to Southampton Central so that all changes appear together.
Compare the number of changes, connection time and arrival at Southampton, especially with several cases. A route through central London has a different shape from a journey using an interchange elsewhere; do not buy a ticket to London simply because London appears in the airport name. For a direct road transfer, use Gatwick and your exact Southampton destination when requesting the journey.
Planning flights around a cruise
For arrival, work back from the ship’s boarding appointment through the complete airport journey. An overnight stay in Southampton moves that journey to the day before embarkation and leaves an opportunity to see the city.
For departure after a cruise, include disembarkation, luggage collection, the transfer and the airline’s airport requirements. The ship’s arrival time is not a promise that you will be outside the terminal at that moment. Keep the return airport distinct from the airport used on arrival, and give the transfer provider the correct flight and terminal details.

Getting here
Southampton Central, the coach station, the airport and the passenger terminals serve different parts of your journey. Choose the connection into Southampton together with the final leg to your hotel, cruise ship or Isle of Wight ferry.
Cruise port
Southampton has five cruise terminals spread across the Eastern and Western Docks. Your terminal determines the port entrance and the final journey from the station or hotel, so use the name on your cruise documents when arranging transport.
Hotels
Hotels around Southampton Central and Westquay suit a rail arrival and time in the centre. Old Town, Town Quay and Ocean Village offer different waterfront settings; for a cruise stay, compare each location with the terminal used by your ship.
Southampton to London
Trains link Southampton with London Waterloo, while National Express coaches arrive at Victoria Coach Station. Moving on to London after a stay or cruise is a different journey from visiting for the day and returning to Southampton.
