Hotels in Southampton
Station, Old Town and waterfront locations
Hotels around Southampton Central and Westquay suit a rail arrival and time in the centre. Old Town, Town Quay and Ocean Village offer different waterfront settings; for a cruise stay, compare each location with the terminal used by your ship.

Choosing an area to stay
A night before a cruise can also be a short city stay. Choose the location for the time you have in Southampton, then arrange the journey to the ship. “Near the port” is too broad a description when the cruise terminals occupy two dock areas.
| Area | What it suits | Connection to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Southampton Central and Westquay | Arriving by train, shopping and a central base | The final journey to your named cruise terminal |
| Old Town and Town Quay | Historic streets and a ferry departure | Red Funnel Terminal 1 or 2, or a separate cruise transfer |
| Ocean Village | Time by the marina and the south-eastern waterfront | The journey to the station or your ship |
Use the accommodation’s actual address when comparing the location. A hotel beside the water may face a marina rather than the docks where you board.
Near the station and Westquay
Southampton Central is the arrival point for trains into the city, including services from London Waterloo. A hotel in this area can make sense when you arrive with luggage and leave again by rail after your stay. Westquay places shops and places to eat within the city-centre part of the visit.
If you are sailing, treat the hotel-to-terminal journey as a separate arrangement. City and Horizon are in the Western Docks, but the Western Docks also include Mayflower. The shared dock-area name does not establish the same walking route or distance for all three.
Old Town and Town Quay
The Old Town combines historic streets, surviving city walls and Tudor House & Garden. A stay here suits an evening or morning spent exploring before the next stage of your journey.
Town Quay is the departure area for Red Funnel’s Isle of Wight services. Terminal 1 serves East Cowes and Terminal 2 serves West Cowes. This is useful orientation for a ferry journey, but it does not place you at a cruise-terminal entrance. Ocean and QEII are in the Eastern Docks, with their own access through Gate 4.
Ocean Village and the waterfront
Ocean Village gives a waterfront stay a different focus from Town Quay. Solent Sky is nearby on Albert Road South, making the area a useful starting point for an aviation-museum visit before or after a cruise.
Allow for travel back to Southampton Central if leaving by train. For embarkation, use the actual terminal rather than choosing accommodation solely because it overlooks water. The cruise port page separates the five terminals and their approach gates.
Staying before a cruise
For a room-only stay, establish check-in, breakfast and luggage arrangements that suit your arrival and boarding appointment. If you want to leave a car during the cruise, compare the package’s full parking period with your sailing dates.
A cruise package needs more than the word “cruise” in its name. Look for the parking location, any key handover, the included transfer, the number of people covered and collection after disembarkation. If the return uses a different terminal, establish how collection works there. Cruise parking covers the difference between parking at the docks and parking elsewhere with transport.
Find a hotel for your dates
Choose your dates and room requirements, then compare accommodation in the area that suits your arrival and plans in the city.
Before booking, compare cancellation terms, breakfast, parking and the transfer you need. A room listing does not by itself include a cruise transfer or parking for the sailing. For an airport arrival, the airport page distinguishes Southampton Airport from Heathrow and Gatwick, so you can match the overnight stay to the complete journey.

Cruise port
Southampton has five cruise terminals spread across the Eastern and Western Docks. Your terminal determines the port entrance and the final journey from the station or hotel, so use the name on your cruise documents when arranging transport.
Getting here
Southampton Central, the coach station, the airport and the passenger terminals serve different parts of your journey. Choose the connection into Southampton together with the final leg to your hotel, cruise ship or Isle of Wight ferry.
Southampton cruise parking
Cruise parking in Southampton includes parking within the port and parking at the airport with a taxi transfer. The useful comparison is where the car stays, how you reach the ship and how you collect it after the cruise.
Old Town
Southampton’s Old Town begins at the medieval Bargate and extends through historic streets towards the waterfront. Surviving walls, Tudor House and the remains of King John’s Palace connect the modern city with its earlier life as a trading port.
