Southampton to London
Trains to Waterloo and coaches to Victoria
Trains link Southampton with London Waterloo, while National Express coaches arrive at Victoria Coach Station. Moving on to London after a stay or cruise is a different journey from visiting for the day and returning to Southampton.

Onward travel or a day trip?
For a stay in London, choose the arrival point that suits your hotel and plan the final London connection. If you are catching a flight, search for the airport itself: a ticket to Waterloo or Victoria leaves another journey to Heathrow or Gatwick.
For a return day trip, both directions matter before you leave Southampton. A cruise passenger also needs transport between the ship and the station or coach stop, plus the ship’s all-aboard deadline. A day in London is therefore a more demanding choice than a day ashore in Southampton.
Trains to London Waterloo
South Western Railway’s Southampton and Winchester route runs to London Waterloo, covered by timetable 19. Search from Southampton Central for a city stay or after transferring from the cruise port. Southampton Airport Parkway is a different station, useful when starting at the airport.
Use the SWR journey planner for the date of travel and any engineering changes. Compare the arrival time as well as the departure, and leave time for the London journey beyond Waterloo. With luggage, the number of changes and the arrangements at each station may matter more than a small saving in journey time.
Coaches to London Victoria
National Express route 032 departs from Southampton Coach Station on Harbour Parade and reaches London Victoria Coach Station. Its published route also serves Heathrow Terminal 5 and Heathrow Central Bus Station. Victoria Coach Station and Waterloo are different arrival points.
The 032 timetable separates services by day of the week. Choose the relevant Southampton stop and the intended London or airport destination when searching. The coach station is not a cruise-terminal pick-up, so include the journey to Harbour Parade in your plan.
Private transfers to London
A private transfer can begin at a hotel or the named cruise terminal and end at a particular London address. Compare offers using that full journey, rather than a general “London transfer”. Give the provider the passenger count, luggage and any wheelchair or child-seat requirements.
For collection after a cruise, establish the meeting point and what happens if disembarkation takes longer than expected. An airport collection needs a separate arrangement for flight delays and waiting time. Road travel also needs room for traffic, so a quoted driving duration should not determine a tightly timed onward connection by itself.
Time for a visit to London
Choose the place you most want to visit, then add the local journeys from and back to Waterloo or Victoria. A museum on the other side of London has a different time cost from a walk near your arrival station.
Build the day from four parts: reaching your Southampton departure point, travelling to London, the visit and local connections, and the complete journey back. For a cruise call, fit all four inside the time available ashore. A short visit to Southampton or an overnight stay around the cruise may give you more time in the place you came to see.
Getting back to Southampton
Choose a return that leaves time for the final connection in Southampton. For a hotel, that means reaching the property; for a cruise, it means being back at the correct terminal before all aboard. The last train of the evening may be irrelevant to an earlier ship departure.
Review the route for both dates if staying overnight in London, especially across a weekend. Keep the Southampton terminal name and the return meeting point with your travel details. Getting here covers the wider transport choices, and airport travel separates Southampton Airport, Heathrow and Gatwick.

Getting here
Southampton Central, the coach station, the airport and the passenger terminals serve different parts of your journey. Choose the connection into Southampton together with the final leg to your hotel, cruise ship or Isle of Wight ferry.
Southampton Airport
Southampton Airport has a nearby railway station at Airport Parkway, with trains into Southampton. Arriving through Heathrow or Gatwick involves a longer onward journey and different interchange points, so the flight and the connection to your hotel or ship belong in the same plan.
Cruise port
Southampton has five cruise terminals spread across the Eastern and Western Docks. Your terminal determines the port entrance and the final journey from the station or hotel, so use the name on your cruise documents when arranging transport.
Hotels
Hotels around Southampton Central and Westquay suit a rail arrival and time in the centre. Old Town, Town Quay and Ocean Village offer different waterfront settings; for a cruise stay, compare each location with the terminal used by your ship.
